Two persons, Vincent Ozioko and Ndubuisi
Onyishi, aged 19 and 24 respectively were on Friday arrested by the police in
Enugu State for allegedly being in possession of 71 satchets of indian hemp.
They
were arrested at a notorious spot at Edeoballa town, in Nsukka local Government
Area of the state following an intensive raid conducted by policemen from
Nsukka division.
Police
Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu who confirmed the
arrest to Dailypost said one locally made double barrel pistol, two lives
cartridges, and one battle axe were among the items recovered from the
suspects.
He
said the Enugu state commissioner of police, Tonye E. Ebitibituwa has directed
for a full scale investigations in the matter.
The university community of Nsukka
has become notorious for criminal activities in recent times. Within the last
two weeks, no less than eight suspected kidnappers and armed robbers have been
arrested within the local government.
However,
the Chairman of the council, Hon. Tony Ugwu in a recent interview said the
government was working hard to curtail the activities of kidnappers and other
criminals in the area.
