D'Banj Speaks About Life After Mo'Hit

Dapo Banji, aka, D’banj is one entertainer that the music industry, especially, is happily proud of. He proved that after he went solo as a Mo’hit pioneer. Anthony Ada Abraham, in this piece, writes on his life after Mo’hit.
Many people don’t know that Dapo Daniel Oyebanjo popularly known as D’banj, was thought how to play the harmonica by his late older brother, Femi Oyebanjo, who died in a plane crash at age seventeen.
As his love for it grows, the ‘koko master’ as he is popularly known after the release of ‘Tell the dikoko’, D’banj’s love for music has been greater than his parents’ military aspirations for him.
The message can be best heard through a album track, “All Da Way” from his debut.
This sensational artiste who stole the show at the 2013 AFCON with a wonderful performance at the closing ceremony has won several music awards including the awards for Best African Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2007, Artist of the Year at the MTV Africa Music Awards 2009, BET Awards of 2011 for Best International Act. Africa was a top 10 hit in the UK singles chart in 2012 reaching No 2 on the UK R&B chart.
Though born in Zaria, Kaduna State, to a military officer who commanded an artillery regiment and a church dignitary mother who hailed from Shagamu in Ogun State, he has been focused in his chosen career making it rather a business.
According to his slogan ‘The Entertainer,’ he says that he sees farther than just singing. He sees the music industry as a business and he is harnessing all opportunities that come his way.
Even from the outset, he has been so keen to work with Jay-Z and Kanye West. His passion has been to take Nigeria entertainment to the outside shores.
According to Godwin Abraham, a fan, many people don’t know D’banj’s aim in the music industry. He said athough he his good at what he does, he sees more than that and it’s the reason why he is pushing on to great height.
“He is a nice guy…I love his songs and swags. Though majority follow him because he has that charisma of pulling crowd to himself. He sees the industry as a connect between Nigeria and the world, that was why he signed onto good Music”, the pundit explained.
Godwin also said D’Banj was the first artiste in Nigeria that featured a known modern European artiste well respected in the world.
Since leaving Mohit for Good Music, his career has continued to blossom. He has his own record label called DB Records. “It’s really funny he is under a record label even though he has his own label”, wondered a source. Its partnership and that is why he is making wave more than the former.
He is an entertainer, a label owner and a partner with Good Music owner, Kanye West and that makes things easier because he already has a known face outside the shores of Nigeria.
E-train was well reliably informed that the entertainer is coming up with a banger from his new record label DB Records with his younger brother and a new singnee including his label mate Kanye West.
His songs:
Though there have been numerous delays on his much anticipated album, the debut from the newly formed DB Records titled ‘De King’s Men’ (DKM) initially slated for release in December 2012 will be hitting the airwaves in March 2013.
The ‘Koko Master’ however took to twitter recently to reveal the official release dates as well as the inclusion of the much awaited ‘Scapegoat’ remix with his G.O.O.D Music boss, Kanye West.
Pundits and critics and it’s comparison to Mavin Record‘s ‘Solar Plexus’ cannot be avoided.
“It has now been confirmed that D’Banj will launch his new album on March 30, 2013. The album, which is titled ‘De King’s Men’ (DKM), featured some singers around the world”.
The album will be his first off his new personal record label, DB Records, which has his younger brother, Kay Switch, signed unto the music label.
Entertainment watchers have said the award winning entertainer’s album would shut ‘doubting thomases’ especially those who insinuated that he would not last long after his separation from Don Jazzy.
Despite the controversies sorrounding his association with Illuminati and rumour about dating Genevieve, and exchanging words with his pal, Don Jazzy, these are all part of his life and have not in any way deterred him from doing what he knows best.
In an interview, the singer debunked all the allegations against him. He said he is from a humble home and would not do anything that would tarnish his hard earned image and abuse the trust of his fans. He also empathized with those peddling fake rumours promising that anyone who peddle false story about him, ‘God would judge him’.
The belief and hope is that D’Banj will continue to raise the Nigerian flag high as he did in South Africa AFCON 2013 with more entertainments and club bangers!!!
