Commissioning of the MTN Foundation Science and Technology Project in Edo State



The MTN Foundation is delighted to announce the formal commissioning of the MTNF Science and Technology laboratory project taking place today, March 5,2013 in three public secondary schools in the Edo State.

Under the MTNF Science and Technology Laboratory Project, the MTN Foundation is upgrading 22 Science Laboratories in six states across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, with the aim of improving the learning and practical teaching of core science subjects (i.e. Chemistry, Physics & Biology), thus enhancing students’ academic performances in these subjects.

Four public secondary schools in the FCT have been completed and fully equipped and are ready to be commissioned.

They are:
Idia College Benin City, Iyaro -Benin City
Edo Boys High School, Benin City
Sacred Heart Girls Model Secondary School, Ubiaja

Each of the secondary schools in the MTNF Science and Technology Laboratory Project will receive the following benefits:
Renovation work and provision of laboratory furniture for existing laboratories
Supply and installation of modern Science and Technology equipment
One full year supply of consumables (materials, chemicals and reagents)
Training of 24 Science Teachers and laboratory attendants
A designated 5KVA generator
Fuel supply for one year

A total of 22 schools will benefit from the first phase of this project, and already 4 schools each in Lagos,Abia and the FCT have been completed and commissioned. Three other schools in Katsina State will soon receive similar benefits.
